About Mike Walker

Dad, Teacher, Track and Pole Vault Coach

Profile

Mike Walker lives in Valparaiso In, home of MW Vault, with his lovely wife Allison of nearly 10 years.  He has 3 children, Logan and Charlotte (age 6) and Emmet (age 4). 

Mike Walker was a 3 sport athlete at Hebron HS, participating in Volleyball, Basketball, and Track.  Despite only being able to vault for 2 years, Mike was able to be a part of the revival of the Pole Vault program at Hebron, learning under Cliff Weeks Sr (an Olympic Trial Vaulter from the 70's) and Cliff Weeks Jr. 

After graduating high school, Mike attended Ball State University, attaining a degree in Social Studies Education.  During that time, Mike coached Pole Vault at Anderson High School, overseeing the development of 2 regional pole vaulters. 

After graduating, Mike coached basketball and worked with Sprinters at Hammond Gavit HS, coaching a regional 4x100 and 400 runner.  From there, he went to Richmond Indiana, reviving Pole Vault, and working with yet another regional Pole Vaulter. 

Finally, ending up in Valparaiso, Mike has coached Boys Basketball and Girls Track while at VHS.  While he gave up the role of Freshman Head Coach, Mike has moved from Pole Vault Coach, to Sprints and Jumps Coach, to Head Girls Coach at VHS.  In that time, he has worked with over 15 state athletes in the pole vault, long jump, 400, 4x400, and 4x800.  In the last 6 years, he has worked with 4 state Pole Vaulters, one of whom was a 2 time state medalist and state runner up.

MW Vault has been created with the goal of helping Pole Vaulters in Northwest Indiana grow and develop not only as athletes but as individuals.   .
